CNC Machining in Mould Manufacturing

Before a mould can produce a single plastic part, its core and cavity must be machined to shape. CNC machining is the process that turns tool steel blocks into the precise geometry that defines a plastic component.

Modern CNC machining allows mould makers to hold tight tolerances across complex 3D surfaces, deep pockets and fine features. The quality of this machining directly affects how much hand-finishing a mould needs and how well its halves match at the parting line.

Good CNC practice in mould making is about more than the machine. Cutter selection, machining strategy, workholding and an understanding of how steel behaves all decide the final result. Rushed machining creates ripple marks, mismatched surfaces and hours of avoidable bench work.
